To make our Creole seasoning, we used the following ingredients: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried basil, dried thyme, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and salt. In a small bowl add:
- 2 tablespoons of paprika,
- 1 tablespoon of salt and pepper,
- 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and dried basil,
- 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper (you can add more to taste)
Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled and stored in an airtight container where it will keep for several months in a cool, dry place.
This homemade Creole seasoning can be used in a variety of dishes to add a burst of flavor. It works wonderfully with meat, seafood, and vegetable dishes. Try sprinkling it on chicken or fish before grilling or mix it into a gumbo or jambalaya for an authentic Creole taste. By making your own seasoning, not only can you adjust the heat level by adding more or less cayenne pepper, but you can also customize the salt content to suit your dietary preferences. Enjoy the rich, complex flavors of Creole cuisine right from your kitchen!
