Smoked Black Walnut Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces of Bourbon of your choice
  • ½ ounce Black Walnut Liqueur
  • 3-4 dashes of Black Walnut Bitters
  • ½ ounce of Cinnamon Simple syrup
  • Orange slice to garnish with

Directions:

To craft a Smoked Walnut Old Fashioned, combine 2 oz. of your favorite bourbon or rye whiskey with 1/4 oz. of black walnut liqueur in a mixing glass. Add a dash of Angostura bitters and a touch of maple syrup or simple syrup to sweeten the mixture. Stir the ingredients with ice until well-chilled, then strain the mixture into a bourbon glass over a large ice cube. Using a smoking gun and wood chips, such as oak or walnut, you are going to infuse the smoke into the glass. This imparts a smoky aroma to the glass.

Garnish your Smoked Walnut Old Fashioned with a twist of orange peel and a few drops of walnut bitters for an added aromatic touch. The result is a drink that is both visually stunning and richly flavored, perfect for sipping slowly and savoring the nuanced interplay of smoky, nutty, and sweet elements. Whether enjoyed by a roaring fireplace or as a relaxing drink with friends, the Smoked Walnut Old Fashioned is a testament to the art of cocktail craftsmanship.

**Note: For the Cinnamon Simple Syrup I took regular simple syrup and added some cinnamon sticks to it and let the syrup sit in the refrigerator. The cinnamon gives it just a hint of sweetness.
